A directory entry that lists a present-day Cumberland County Jail building, capacity, or roster should not override the official record.
An arrest or court case may begin in Burkesville, while booking, custody, and physical release happen in Columbia or another county. Most documented transports went to Adair County Regional Jail. Request Cumberland Release Records

Cumberland Release Records Compared
No single source holds the whole Cumberland custody story. The jailer's transport record can identify where the person went, but it may not state the precise legal basis for departure from the receiving jail. The jail's admission-and-release entry can record when custody ended there, while the Cumberland court file can show the bond, dismissal, judgment, or order behind that event. Dates can differ without proving an error. A court may enter an order before jail staff finish the physical release process. A roster can change after a transfer while the receiving agency is still processing intake. A DOC report covers its report date and state population, not each local jail release. Compare the person's identifiers, event type, releasing facility, destination, and time scope. When records conflict, begin with the last confirmed physical facility, ask whether custody ended or moved, then confirm the authority with the court or corrections agency that issued it.
Where Cumberland Releases Happen
A Cumberland release may physically occur outside Cumberland County. No official routine ride from a remote jail to Burkesville was found. No fixed release door, waiting area, release hour, weekend process, property rule, or transport-home policy was verified. Anyone arranging pickup should call the actual holding jail and confirm the place, timing, identification rules, property process, and whether release remains approved.
Do not assume the court is the pickup point. Holds and transfers can change the outcome. The holding jail is the proper source for logistics, and the court order alone may not show the moment of physical departure.
Why Cumberland Releases Are Remote
The jail's mid-1990s closure makes Cumberland's release process unlike a county with one local roster and release desk. The 2020 record says prisoners are transported to Adair. It also describes a historic rise in Adair housing expense from $174,000 in 2017 to $345,000 in 2018 and 2019, then characterized as about 40 percent of Cumberland's budget. Those figures are historical context, not current costs.
The later transport snapshot confirms a distributed system. It explains why commercial pages presenting one active Cumberland jail address can mislead. Official Kentucky and Cumberland records should control. Cumberland County, North Carolina and FCI Cumberland in Maryland are different places and must not enter a Kentucky county release search.
That history also changes the meaning of a local records search. The Cumberland jailer can point to the destination and may retain transport material, but the jailer does not operate a live local cellblock that can supply every booking photo, release time, or property receipt. Those operational records remain with the remote jail.
